When The Two Sevens Clash

And so – we reached the last session of 2024 and we’ve made it to number 77! Thanks to everyone that has attended over the past year and helped to make it such an enjoyable run. This visit to Wharf Chambers didn’t feel quite as bonkers as some previous December sessions – but everyone had a great time by the look of things. We were unfortunately down to only one deck due to needle trouble and not having any spares. We all seemed to cope OK – and it certainly removed the risk of any attempts at fancy mixing... There were several murmurings that this might have been our best session ever. That’s a hell of a claim – but it certainly was quite a corker. September, September – so good it got played twice. On this autumnal second Sunday we were definitely chasing the clouds away. It was a little quieter than our summer sessions but with a room full of regulars eager to share their selections we managed to get out seventeen sets.

As ever we were treated to a wide range of sets – from disco to ska to country to a Belinda Carlisle set – as well as the usual in-set eclecticism. We were reminded of some of the more obscure nooks and crannies of Bowie and the Stones, and were introduced to artists such as Skylab, Penza Penza and Locksmith – the latter as part of a funk set which got people up on that bit of the floor used for dancing very early doors, in the third set of seven no less. There was a lot happening on Sunday! We had the last day of Leodis Requiem at Wharf Chambers and some big birthday celebrations too. Thanks on Delia’s behalf to everyone that brought the lovely food along – a veritable feast it was.
