As 3pm approached the floor at Wharf Chambers was glistening – and so was I. The former I was assured was due to a recent right good mop – as for me it was the hot hot heat of this most sunny of Sunday afternoons. As people started to roll in it was clear everyone was feeling hot hot hot. Another brilliant afternoon at Wharf had begun. The bar soon began to fill with regulars, occasionals, and a fair few newbies and relative newbies who braved the sweltering conditions to play, to listen, to dance and to glisten. As the heat peaked and the sun set we were treated to 17 sets ranging from cheesy pop to Einstürzende Neubauten via Deep Purple and Baccara. Another smörgåsbord of sounds, another great afternoon and early evening.

We finally made it happen. We’d been planning a Punky Reggae Party event for the summer of 2020 back when we were running things in Northern Monk’s taproom – but then covid came along put the kibosh on it. So we decided to resurrect the idea when we were thinking of doing something special this year – and the theme seemed to fit really well with it being Carnival weekend. Seeing the weather forecast in the morning we decided to hold it indoors (even with the last minute erection of a gazebo in the back yard) – and then it barely rained a drop. Not to worry though – we played for 7½ hours, everyone had a great time and we heard some excellent records. Here’s the list:
